Community Groups

HCC is structured in community groups. The Married and Singles groups are grouped into Community Groups that meet in the homes throughout Maryland. The College will be in Community groups that meet at church on Friday nights. Community groups will define who HCC is. HCC will be simply the compilation of all the community groups.

Why are community groups so important to HCC?

When you become a Christian, you commit yourself to Christ. However you only become a part of Christ’s church by committing yourself to other believers. This is done through community groups. Community groups are not a trend or a fad. They are God’s plan for His church. It was established before the birth of Jesus with the various tribes of Israel, reconfirmed through the life of Jesus and further stressed after the death and resurrection of Jesus through the early churches in Acts.

It is our desire and dream that every person who calls HCC home would participate in a community group. We have prepared a community group brochure and packet that includes a description of all the community groups that are available for you.

What is a community group?

At HCC, it is comprised of Married/Parents, Singles or College Community Groups. It’s simply a group of people who meet weekly to build close relationships with God and one another. They enable our church to grow larger by growing smaller.

Why should I belong to a community group?

Being in a community group best enables you to grow to full devotion to Jesus Christ. Why? Because here you’re surrounded by friendly caring people who truly care for you and will challenge you to deepen your relationship with God. God created us to be in community with others.

What does a community group look like?

It looks like a group of friends – friends who share the most important things in life – their faith in God, their values, their time and a commitment to living for Jesus Christ.

What will I do in a community group?

In your community group, you’ll..

• Gather to gain a better understanding of the Bible and its application to every day life
• Build lasting friendships in a relaxed setting
• Provide support and care for one another
• Practice and experience the power of prayer

In short, you’ll experience life in biblical community just as God intended.

How do I find such a group?

We have several community groups for you to choose. If you are married or a parent, we have several groups that meet in various locations in Maryland for you to choose. If you are single or college age, we invite you to come to church on Friday evenings, and you will be able to plug into one of the several community groups available at church.

Where do I begin?

There are two options:

• Check out our community group directory. Find a community group that you are interested in and then email the coaches of that group. They will contact you to give you information about when and where they will meet.
• Look inside the bulletin and check to see which community group you are interested in. Ask the coach for more information.

In this whole process, we ask that you give it some time, relax and get to know people. Then see what God has in store for you in a life-changing community group, living side by side just as Jesus did…with friends.
